The Barack Obama Presidential Center (OPC), located in Jackson Park on Chicago’s South Side, will officially open its doors on June 19. Ahead of its grand opening, the Obama Foundation invited the press to tour the 19.3-acre OPC campus, which includes an eight-story presidential museum, gift shop, a grab-and-go cafe, an on-site restaurant named Tafari’s Kitchen, a Chicago Public Library branch, a children’s play area with an extensive playground, an open green space for community and social gatherings, and community garden.

Tickets are now available for the museum, but the wait is a long one. At publishing time, the next available general admission entry ticket is available for October. Admission ranges from $26 and $15 for adults and children who reside in Illinois; and $30 and $23 for adults and children who live outside of Illinois. All children under the age of 2 are free.

Veteran Reporter Monroe Anderson toured the OPC campus for The TRiiBE. While there, he interviewed Michael Strautmanis, Obama Foundation’s chief corporate affairs officer; and Valerie Jarrett, Obama Foundation’s chief executive officer. He ponders the question: is the Obama Presidential Center a modern-day pyramid?
