Digital News Editor (full-time)

Join a team that is reshaping the narrative of Black Chicago through journalism, creative storytelling, events and outreach that elevates the voices and perspectives of its community.

As we continue to grow our editorial team at The TRiiBE, we’re in search of a Digital News Editor to help us reimagine the way we tell important news stories to our Black Chicago audience. The Digital News Editor will be responsible for managing the day-to-day news side of The TRiiBE’s editorial team: keeping up with issues that affect Black Chicagoans and assigning these stories to our team of reporters. Additionally, the Digital News Editor will do some writing, as well, working with our Social Media team to get breaking news out there in an efficient manner. 

The TRiiBE is passionate about building the creative ecosystem of Chicago, so this team member must be based in Chicago. This is a FULL-TIME position with a $52,000 salary and benefits.

+  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

— writing and editing news stories

— fact-checking articles

— Dispatching TRiiBE reporters into the field for story assignments, and assisting them with creating stories to be published on thetriibe.com and TRiiBE TV.

— Administrative duties related to the successful running of the editorial team

+ QUALIFICATIONS

— Degree in journalism, media, communications or related fields

— At least 2 years of management experience in an editorial role in digital media

— Strong interest in Chicago news and politics, especially related to Black Chicagoans

— Knowledge of AP and house style guides

— Strong news judgement, reporting, writing and editing skills

— Able to problem solve, work well under pressure and on deadline

— Must be a self-starter and dependable employee

Partnerships and Sales Representative (full-time)

As The TRiiBE seeks to expand our digital advertising and branded content capabilities, the Partnerships and Sales Representative will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with local and national brands. Additionally, they will execute digital ad sales for thetriibe.com and our interactive map/directory app, THE SCENE

We’re looking for a charismatic individual with exceptional writing and communication skills, and who isn’t afraid to connect with new people on a daily basis. Experience in Sales or related fields/industries is a MUST

The TRiiBE is passionate about building the creative ecosystem of Chicago, so this team member must be based in Chicago. This is a FULL-TIME position with a $30,000 salary + commission and benefits.

+ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

– Respond to all advertisement inquiries for thetriibe.com and THE SCENE app.

– Meet ad sales quotas while demonstrating excellent customer service.

– Build visually engaging analytics reports for clients and partners.

– Create and analyze intake forms for businesses while showcasing excellent customer service.

– Develop, distribute and process audience and population surveys that will help The TRiiBE cater our advertisements and branded content to the behavior of our target audience.

– Ability to work in office during shift, post COVID-19 pandemic.

+ QUALIFICATIONS:

– 3 years of professional work experience, at least 1 year in sales or a related field.

– Exceptional communications and writing skills (bachelor’s degree in related fields such as business communications, preferred but not required).

– Working knowledge of data processing and analytics programs like Google Analytics, Sprout Social, etc.

– Ability to build professional and visually captivating portfolios, decks and other sales aids.

– Savvy with social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

– A deep understanding and empathy for the economic, social and historical disenfranchisement of the African Diaspora.
