Join a team reshaping the narrative of Black Chicago through sleek, interactive and innovative digital technology.

The TRiiBE is a digital platform centering Black news and culture in Chicago. Our team is growing and we are looking for a detail-oriented, diligent and creative web developer to join our TRiiBE.

We are seeking to hire a part-time web developer that will assist in extending and maintaining our current WordPress website, as well as work on special projects such as building engaging map and data tools, extending our digital events calendar, The Scene, and more. We are looking for someone with at least 2-4 years of web development experience. Candidates with WordPress development experience are highly preferred. If not applicable, Vue and Node.js is a great alternative. A good eye for both web and UI/UX design is a plus. Must be based in Chicago. Please expect to work 15-20 hours a week. This role could develop into a full-time position.

+ Rate: $20-$30/hr., depending on experience

+ Responsibilities

– Working within our WordPress theme to add features and implement web designs.

– Helping build out page designs for major editorial features.

– Thinking of and implementing ways to increase site engagement and improve SEO.

– Overall site maintenance, whether it’s finding ways to strengthen our site or fixing bugs as they appear.

+ Projects to look forward to

– Site Performance/Accessibility – As our site engagement grows, we need to assure our site gives our consumers a fast and seamless experience. Finding areas where we can apply best practices for site performance brings us to that goal.

– New WordPress Theme – Building a theme specific for The TRiiBE’s needs creates a stronger foundation to develop on.

– The Scene (depends on Vue/Node experience) – The Scene is our premier web applications for Chicagoans to post and see events happening around the city. We believe it can do more than that. We will need help extending and adding features as we think of ways to evolve the application

– Engaging map and data tools – As we continue to cover the COVID-19 pandemic, and other issues disproportionately impacting Black Chicago, creating engaging map and data tools to accompany our stories will be impactful
