Let the NYE countdown begin. For the first time ever, Chicago will join the country’s biggest year-end party: “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2026.” The Chicago countdown will air live from Navy Pier on ABC-7 beginning at 7:00 p.m. central on Dec. 31.
Additionally, Chicago’s own Chance the Rapper will host it.
The Grammy Award-winning artist took to Instagram to celebrate.
“I’m honored to be co-hosting the first @RockinEve celebrations and Central Time Zone countdown from the Windy City,” Chance said.
In a written press release, Mayor Brandon Johnson acknowledged the city’s “creativity, resilience and unmatched talent,” calling Chance the perfect host.
There is no better ambassador for that spirit than Chance the Rapper,” Johnson said. “His leadership, artistry, and deep love for our neighborhoods make him the perfect host as Chicago steps onto the national stage for New Year’s Eve. This moment is more than a celebration; it is an opportunity to showcase the vibrancy of our people, culture, and stories to the world, and we are proud to have Chance represent Chicago.”
This year marks the first time in over 50 years that the broadcast will include a central timezone countdown, according to ABC. Chicago joins a lineup of now two other cities — New York City and Las Vegas — that will broadcast their NYE festivities. Singer-songwriter and actress Rita Ora is the Times Square host. Former NFL tight end, Rob Gronkowski and “Dancing with the Stars” instructor and judge, Julanne Hough are the hosts for Las Vegas.
In Chicago, the festivities will include live performances, on-the-ground reporting, and a spectacular firework show on the bridges of the Chicago River instantly following the countdown.
The New York City’s broadcast is known for its “ball drop” at the end of the countdown. It’s unclear if Chicago and Las Vegas will do something similar. There are multiple celebrations for New Year’s Eve already listed on Navy Pier’s website. The TRiiBE reached out to the mayor’s office for comment, but haven’t heard back.
Chance will also be performing that night. The announcement follows a standout year for Chance, who completed his “And We Back” North American tour and released his critically acclaimed album Star Line.
