09/30/2025 — WHAT WE’VE HEARD TODAY:
The TRiiBE is working in collaboration with indie investigative newsroom Unraveled Press and alt-weekly Chicago Reader to bring you confirmed sightings of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agents in the Chicago area.
Broadview officials, including Mayor Katrina Thompson, Police Chief Thomas Mills, and Fire Chief Matt Martin, held a press conference this morning to discuss federal agents’ attacks on protesters, residents, and first responders in the community. Former Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot was in attendance. Police and fire officials continued to raise questions about the security fence the federal government has installed, blocking access on Beach Street.
“They’ve launched a disinformation campaign that would make Russia blush,” Mayor Thompson said.
Her comments come after agents threatened Broadview with a “shitshow” in advance of last Saturday’s protest outside the ICE facility. ICE made good on that promise in a brutal, unprovoked chemical attack on the crowd that evening.
Five protesters are facing federal charges after being arrested by aggressive Border Patrol agents in the violent scene. Two of them—both Black men—are still being held in federal custody. U.S. magistrate judge Gabriel Fuentes scheduled a pretrial detention hearing for 26-year-old Paul Ivery of Oak Park for Wednesday morning. Community members have identified Ivery as intellectually disabled.
This afternoon, the Coalition Against the Trump Agenda will rally downtown at Wacker and Michigan in protest of President Trump’s renewed threat to deploy National Guard troops in support of ongoing ICE operations.
1:00 a.m.
Shortly after 1:00 AM last night, dozens of federal agents with U.S. Border Patrol and the FBI raided an apartment building in South Shore as part of a “targeted immigration enforcement operation.”
Neighbors report hearing flash grenades and screaming, and one person told ABC 7 they saw two people detained.
Chicago police were initially dispatched to the scene when neighbors reported the flashbang explosions as gunfire, according to emergency dispatch audio recordings shared to the Citizen neighborhood watch app. Federal agents also reportedly rerouted CTA buses in the area.
6:00 a.m.
Back of the Yards remains a favorite hunting ground for the feds, with more sightings reported this morning near the Home Depot at 47th Street and Western Avenue. Rapid response volunteers say they’ve been repeatedly intimidated by Customs and Border Patrol agents in the area. On Sunday morning, federal agents detained several organizers and held them at the Broadview ICE facility.

Community members also reported discovering more abandoned vehicles today—including one with a smashed window—in Aurora, and on the southwest side of Chicago.
