09/25/2025 — WHAT WE’VE HEARD TODAY:
The TRiiBE is working in collaboration with indie investigative newsroom Unraveled Press and alt-weekly Chicago Reader to bring you confirmed sightings of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agents in the Chicago area.
More protests are planned this weekend in opposition to ongoing federal immigration raids across Chicago and its suburbs. The weekly protest in front of the ICE facility at 1930 Beach Street in Broadview resumes Friday morning from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., per a statement released by organizers. Another protest at the facility is planned for this Saturday evening, from 6:00 p.m. onwards.
As part of the statement, University of Chicago Immigration and Refugee Policy Professor Jessica Darrow issued prepared remarks recalling last Friday, when federal agents unleashed chemical munitions on unarmed protestors, press and elected officials.
“The brutal violence unleashed by ICE against peaceful protestors on September 19 shocked many,” Darrow said. “But we show up to protest because we know this violence is not a shocking aberration, and instead a visible reminder of the brutality of ICE’s ongoing campaign to disappear our neighbors and tear our community apart.”
Smaller protests have continued daily in front of the Broadview facility since last Friday, despite federal agents’ continued use of less-lethal chemical weapons on protestors. Federal agents also erected a large fence earlier this week to fully block off their end of Beach Street. The Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday that Broadview officials have since demanded the Department of Homeland Security remove it over its potential as a fire hazard and lack of proper permitting.
Block Club Chicago reports that federal immigration agents released two people that were detained outside a homeless shelter in Budlong Woods on Tuesday. Activists and elected officials staged a press conference yesterday in response to the detainment.
The Coalition Against the Trump Agenda, which includes multiple activist organizations and labor groups, announced a protest and march to “challenge ICE’s widespread attacks on immigrants and demand Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen [O’Neal] Burke stand up to ICE.” The action will take place at Daley Plaza on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m and will be livestreamed on the group’s Instagram page.
2:30 p.m.
Border Patrol agents were seen this afternoon operating boats on the Chicago River in the Loop and in the vicinity of Navy Pier. Multiple videos shared online between noon and 2:15 p.m. shows agents patrolling both east and west along the Riverwalk.
1:50 p.m.
Multiple federal agents, along with at least three vehicles, were spotted conducting an arrest on E. Washington Street in Joliet this afternoon. Video of the incident, shared before 1:30 p.m., shows the agents’ vehicles blocking in a black pickup truck with a broken driver-side window.
Separate video of the same incident shows federal agents restraining a man on the ground.
1:30 p.m.
The Elgin Rapid Response Team is encouraging those whose loved ones were detained this week to meet at the Mexican Consulate at 204 S. Ashland Avenue today at 3:00 p.m. for support.
10:30 a.m.
A witness recorded no fewer than 18 SUVs, minivans and pickup trucks – most of them unmarked – used by federal agents entering a lot adjacent to a Menard’s home improvement store off Cermak Road and Cicero Avenue. At least one vehicle had its lights flashing; a pickup truck near the rear of the convoy was marked as border patrol.
10:00 a.m.
Multiple federal agents in full Multiple federal agents in full military gear were subsequently spotted at a Home Depot and Chase Bank off Armitage and Cicero Avenues near Hermosa shortly after 10 a.m. Witnesses on scene reported federal agents firing pepper balls, though we have been unable to independently verify.
From available photos and videos it appears several people were detained. Border Patrol Commander-at-Large Greg Bovino was photographed on scene during the raid.
9:45 a.m.
Democratic Congresswomen Delia Ramirez and Andrea Salinas (IL-3 and OR-6 respectively) today introduced a House resolution condemning the negative mental health impacts of “immigration enforcement overreach” by the Trump administration. The resolution also condemns ICE tactics that the congresswomen say violate the Fourth Amendment and other Constitutional protections, and directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to work with immigrant advocacy nonprofits to provide “culturally comprehensive mental health services to directly impacted communities.”
“Across the country, the Trump Administration has instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement to racially profile, intimidate, and detain our Latino and immigrant communities,” Salinas said in a prepared statement. “As a result, young children are missing school, parents are missing work, and families are living in fear due to to the threat of deportation or, worse, separation from their loved ones.”
9:30 a.m.
Video shared on social media shows two federal agents detaining a man in the Willoway Terrace neighborhood of Arlington Heights, off the 2300 block of Oakton Street. It is unclear at what time the arrest occurred, though it is after dawn.
8:00 a.m.
Southwest Side Rapid Response also confirmed the presence of six-to-10 vehicles used by federal agents parked near 46th Street and Damen Avenue, and at least one arrest at a BP gas station adjacent to a Home Depot parking lot. Per corroborating witness video, the person arrested at the BP was a vendor selling snacks.
“Please if anyone knows her family let them know they left her car and her tamales stand and took her!” reads the caption of the post written in Spanish.
7:45 a.m.
Multiple videos and photos shared to social media show over a dozen federal agents, including Border Patrol, raiding a Home Depot on 47th Street and Western Avenue in Chicago. This Home Depot has been targeted for arrests at least twice before; on Sept. 18 agents nearly struck a high school student in their rush to flee the scene following arrests.
6:02 a.m.
Witness video shared to social media shows what appears to be both unmarked and militarized vehicles exiting an Aldi parking lot near Pulaski Road and Wrightwood Avenue in Chicago’s Hermosa neighborhood. The video was posted at 6:02 a.m. The unmarked vehicles can be seen turning south onto Pulaski from Wrightwood.
According to the recorder of the video, there were six cars in the Aldi parking lot “using regular cars.” The recorder warned people to be careful.
3:00 a.m.
Video shared to social media by a neighbor shows an early morning immigration raid with flash grenades on a house in suburban Cicero. Federal agents took at least one man into custody.
Border Patrol agents were on the scene, including Commander-at-Large Greg Bovino, who is seen alongside a person filming the raid. Berwyn-Cicero Rapid Response confirmed at least ten agents were present on the scene, as was a Border Patrol helicopter.
