Right as former First Lady Michelle Obama wrapped up her speech, she introduced her husband, former President Barack Obama.
“It’s good to be home. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling fired up,” the 44th president said as he spoke in front of a roaring crowd. “I am feeling hope because this convention has always been good to kids with funny names.”
Obama tapped into the nostalgia of “hope” from his 2008 campaign slogan.
Particularly, he encouraged Democrats to listen and learn from each other and from those who aren’t necessarily ready to support their candidate.
“Our fellow citizens deserve the same grace we hope they’ll extend to us. That’s how we can build a true Democratic majority. One that can get things done,” he said.
Of course, he didn’t shy away from taking his digs at opponent Donald Trump, calling out the misinformation and disinformation that he spews through racist rhetoric.
“Who will fight for me? Who’s thinking about my future? About my children’s future? About our futures together?” Obama asked. “One thing is for certain, donald trump is not losing sleep over that question.”
