Looking for events happening in a ‘hood near you? We’ve got you covered, Chicago! To learn about these upcoming events, or to add your own events to our digital calendar, visit The Scene on The TRiiBE. It’s free!

Chicago is one of the most unique cities. When it comes to art, entertainment, nightlife and — at times — even sports, our city is second to none, in my opinion.

That being said, it can still be difficult finding a place where we can feel comfortable in our Blackness. Are you looking for a vibe this weekend that fits your lifestyle? It is our intention that this weekly list, as well as The Scene, serves as a tool to help you find your TRiiBE when going out on the town.

1. My Best Friend Is Black

We all need to laugh sometimes, and if you like comedy, this is the event for you. Held at the Lincoln Lodge, My Best Friend Is Black, is a variety show that focuses on providing a platform for Black performers. The Lincoln Lodge is located at 2040 N. Milwaukee Ave. Tickets are available for $12. Showtime starts on Thursday, April 27 at 8:00 p.m., ending at 9:30 p.m. This is sure to be a good time, and it’s open to all races. Donations will be accepted, and are encouraged, if you have 0% melanin but have a Black best friend.

2. Rasheeda Speaking

A Shattered Globe Theatre production, Rasheeda Speaking is described as a comedy-turned-social thriller focusing on racism in the workplace. This play seems relatable. I mean we’ve all been the “Black coworker” on our jobs before, right? The play is one act and runs approximately 90 minutes. It is running from April 22 through June 4 at The Theater Wit. Tickets are available, ranging from $15 to $45. Shows are available throughout the week.

3. SOULTRAP & TASTE

This party proves that day parties and brunches aren’t just reserved for Sundays. Come out on Saturday, April 30 to Tavern On The Row. The party starts at 12:00 p.m. and ends at  7:00 p.m. It will be fueled by bottomless mimosas and a buffet-style brunch. Located at 17 N. Wabash Ave. on the 2nd floor, Tavern On the Row is a spacious, upscale venue with a robust sports bar equipped to handle a large day party crowd. Entry is free before 2:00 p.m.. After that, prices range from $20 for general admission to $635 for a table seating nine people.

4. Sneaky Link Sundays

Need a relaxed vibe before Monday rolls around? Come out to Sneaky Link Sundays at The Lyons Den Hookah Lounge, located at 2123 W. Division St. from 6:00 p.m.. until 12:00 a.m.. I’ve been to the Lyon’s Den, so I can vouch for it. The venue has great lighting, good music and good service. A ticket is $40 and includes jerk tacos, a hookah for every two people. And, as always, BYOB.
