As we all know, recreational marijuana has been legal in Illinois for more than two years now, dating back to January 1, 2020. Soon after, the global COVID-19 pandemic stopped all social gatherings. So we haven’t really seen what Chicago truly looks like on the 4/20 holiday just yet.

Now that all the COVID-19 restrictions are gone, this year gives all marijuana enthusiasts the opportunity to gather and celebrate the green holiday.

Here’s a look at a few events for 4/20 in the city. Don’t forget to smoke safely, and that public consumption of marijuana is not permitted in Chicago.

1. Paint & Sip: Battle of the Snoops On 420

Go to Time Out Market in the West Loop on April 20 for your ideal paint and sip scenario. Located at 916 W. Fulton Market, attendees can paint a picture of hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg. Tickets are $75, including art tools and a $20 food voucher for the vendors inside Time Out Market. Perfect scenario to handle those munchies, right? The event starts at 6:30 p.m.

2. 420 Sensory Meditation

This workshop, led by yoga instructor Amin, will give you everything you need to find inner peace. On Wednesday, April 20, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at YogaSix, located at 1618 E. 53rd St, the workshop will include sound bowls, music, touch, sensory, and a yoga session. Vendors will also be available, providing sweet treats for the ultimate 4/20 experience. Tickets are $40 and parking will be free for two hours.

3. 420 Puff & Paint

Still looking for 420 plans? This event features sounds by DJ Mile High, high vibrational treats provided by vendors, movies, painting and performances from local Chicago artists. This is a party with plenty of options and you’re encouraged to bring your own party favors. The event is in Humboldt Park on April 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The exact location will be revealed upon purchase of ticket. Tickets for this event range from $20 to $50, depending on the package you choose.

4. Chronic Conversations: Who Wants Smoke!

This event is sure to spark an engaging conversation. Chronic Conversations, held at 4330 N. Pulaski Rd., will focus on the political side of marijuana, including updates from organizations that have been pivotal in the fight for Black and brown equity and the decriminalization of cannabis. Additionally, there will be music provided by Fly Boy Dj Word, and drinks will be provided by Alexander James Whiskey. Learn about current cannabis legislation, as well as legislation that isn’t moving and why. The event will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on April 21, and is free with RSVP.

5. Waldo’s Forever Fest

Come out to Andersonville on April 23 for a block party you won’t forget. Waldo’s Forever Fest, presented by Dispensary 33, is a 4/20-friendly festival that is held on North Clark and West Argyle St. Although public consumption of marijuana will not be permitted in the streets, this will still be an awesome way to come out and celebrate with other weed enthusiasts. Food vendors will be present and the event will feature performances from Junglepussy, Sudan Archives and Shea Couleé. The festivities start at 11:00 a.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. This event is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
