It’s time to get your ‘fits and finances in order, family. ComplexCon is coming to Chicago on July 20-21. That means all of the who’s who within the dope Black entertainment universe will converge on our beloved city, bringing dozens of dope events, cool fashion, and bomb parties here with them.
Just in case you didn’t know: ComplexCon is the world’s largest gathering of pop-culture visionaries. Last month, Chicago streetwear designer Joe FreshGoods shared on Twitter that ComplexCon would be making its way to the Windy City in 2019.
When The TRiiBE reached out to the folks over at ComplexCon, they responded with a generic statement which didn’t confirm or deny the news.
“Please be advised that next year’s venue and schedule is not yet determined. You can sign up to our newsletter or follow us on social media for updates,” the email said.
Chicago made a big splash at this year’s ComplexCon, which took place in Long Beach, CA from Nov. 3-4. FreshGoods and Chicago visionary photographer Elise Swopes designed exclusive merch for the event.
Off-White creator Virgil Abloh, who is one of the biggest stars in fashion right now, lead a panel called “The Next Generation of Design as Seen by Virgil Abloh.”
Lena Waithe, creator of the Showtime series The Chi, spoke on a panel alongside HBO’s Insecure creator Issa Rae, called “Women Behind the Lens,” which was moderated by The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill.
We say all of this to say: Chicago is going to crack next summer. Stay tuned.
